Application Procedures

American Studies admits for graduate study at the Ph. D. level only. Ph.D. students may obtain a M.A. during the course of their studies, but no students are admitted for a terminal M.A. Students entering the Ph.D. program must hold at least a Bachelor's level degree from a recognized institution of higher education.

“Upload 1” in Program Supplementary Information Sylvia K. and Samual L. Kaplan Fellowship in Social Justice Statement This American Studies fellowship is designed to provide financial assistance to exceptional applicants seeking an American Studies Ph.D. Recipients receive a stipend, tuition waivers and subsidized health coverage in at least one semester. Applicants who wish to be nominated for this fellowship should include with their American Studies application a one-two page statement detailing their commitment to social justice through their Ph.D.
“Upload 2” in Program Supplementary Information ICGC-MacArthur Scholars Fellowship Statement Guidelines and application forms are available from the Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Global Change (ICGC)-MacArthur Program on the web. Applicants who wish to be nominated for ICGC-MacArthur fellowships should include as supplementary information a statement detailing your experience and interest in the issues of the ICGC-MacArthur Program.
Applicant Statements Extenuating Circumstances Include an optional statement about any extenuating circumstances you would like to have taken into consideration when your application is being reviewed.
